Fort Apache
It takes a while for John Ford, in his somber investigation of the American hero mythos, to expose the character of Owen Thursday, who sees his new posting to the desolate Fort Apache as a chance to reclaim the military honor he believes is properly his own. Cochise, the Apache chief, was lured across the border from Mexico by Thursday, who was arrogant, concerned with military form, and ultimately self-destructive in his attempt to destroy him.
