Freedom
Two men who have been separated by 100 years are joined in their quest for freedom. Samuel Woodward and his family flee the Monroe Plantation outside Richmond, Virginia in 1856. The family is guided north to Canada by the Underground Railroad, a covert network of regular people. Plimpton, the legendary slave hunter, pursues them fiercely. Samuel is forced to choose between revenge and freedom as he is pursued like a dog and haunted by the unspeakable misery he and his forefathers have undergone. Slave trader Captain John Newton departs from Africa with a load of slaves heading for America 100 years earlier, in 1748. Captain Newton's survival is linked to Samuel's great grandfather's survival. Newton's life is profoundly changed by the expedition, and he leaves a legacy that will inspire Samuel and millions of others for years.
