People in an acting company arrive in Ireland to play Hamlet. The story begins at a castle in the countryside and moves forward from there. The lives of the actors and their characters are linked together as Prince Hamlet meets the ghost of his father and seeks revenge on his uncle and new king, Claudius, who has been betrayed by his father. Everybody inside of the castle is burned alive by Hamlet's quest for revenge. He also reveals all of the many contradictions and ambiguities of human life. At the end of the play, seven days have passed, and the actors come out. They leave the castle and characters behind, but the castle and characters are still there.
