David Callaway is trying to put his life back together after his wife committed suicide and he is left to raise their nine-year-old daughter, Emily, on his own. David is amused when he finds out that Emily has made an imaginary friend named "Charlie," but it isn't long before "Charlie" shows a dark and violent side. As David tries to deal with his daughter's growing emotional problems, he comes to the scary realization that "Charlie" isn't just something Emily made up.
