Hope and Glory

As the director of this coming-of-age story, John Boorman drew on his own childhood memories for this movie about a boy growing up in and around London during World War II. For Billy Rowan, the nightly bombings are a scary show, but they also give him and his friends a chance to dig through the rubble with their friends in the mornings. As Billy plays, his family struggles to stay together as they go through the pain and loss of war.
