Behrani, an Iranian immigrant, buys a California bungalow with the intention of fixing it up, reselling it, and earning enough money to send his son to college. The house, on the other hand, is the legal property of Kathy, a former drug addict. She has nowhere to go after losing her house in an unfair legal dispute with the county. She hires a lawyer and befriends a police officer in order to reclaim her home. Because neither Kathy nor Behrani have broken the law, they are caught in a difficult moral quandary.
