Kline, a former Los Angeles police officer turned private investigator, is hired by a prominent pharmaceutical conglomerate head to conduct an investigation in Asia into the disappearance of his only son, Shitao, whom he has not seen in person since the youngster was ten years old. Shitao, now in his 30s, has vanished in the Philippines, where he was volunteering at an orphanage.
