I Never Sang for My Father

Hackman stars as a New York professor seeking a change in his life and preparing to marry his sweetheart and relocate to California. His mother understands his desire to escape, but cautions him that moving so far away from his father may be difficult. The mother passes away shortly before the wedding. Hackman's sister (who has been shunned by their father due to her marriage to a Jewish man) tells him to pursue his own life and not to succumb to their father's control.
