In the not too distant future, an epidemic of canine influenza prompts the mayor of a Japanese city to order all canines to be quarantined on an island that also serves as a landfill. When a child of 12 years of age who is looking for his beloved pet comes on the island, the misfits will soon be forced to set out on an adventure of epic proportions.
