It Was a Faint Dream
Set in 13th-century Kyoto, where the clergy rule the Imperial court. Shijo was a peasant girl who had been sold as a concubine to a wealthy daima. She begins an affair with a State Councillor and the brother of a retired Emperor because she is bored with her life in seclusion. She becomes a nun and travels the country after realizing she is nothing more than a courtesan's toy.
