Ivan the Terrible, Part I

Producer unhappiness with Eisenstein's attempts to use forbidden experimental filmmaking techniques and enormous cost overruns led to the film's cancellation. On the other hand, the third part was only in its early stages of filming when shooting was halted altogether, ten years after Eisenstein's death and the USSR government's change of heart towards his work. On his quest to reconcile the Russian people, Ivan is betrayed by the aristocracy and even his closest friends in the first part of his reign.
