Charles Price may have grown up with his father in the family shoe business in Northampton, in central England, but he never thought he would take his father's place. But the untimely death of his father puts him in that position, and then he finds out that Price & Sons Shoes is failing. When Charles's attempts to save the business fail, he meets Lola, a flamboyant drag queen cabaret singer. Her complaints about the shoes not being good enough for her job and a suggestion from Lauren, one of Charles's former employees, lead to a last-ditch plan to save the business: make men's fetish shoes. Lola agrees to be their shoe designer, and the change starts. Now, this strange group of people has to try to make this unorthodox idea work while dealing with the prejudice of the staff, Lola's discomfort in the small town, and Charles' greedy fiancée, who can't see how Charles' dream will help the world as a whole.
