During his third year of life, a lively, vibrant little boy named Owen Suskind suddenly stopped speaking, sinking into autism and seemingly with no way out. Owen was only stimulated by Disney pictures for about four years, during which time he did not do anything else. "What's it like to be you?" his father inquired one day while dressed as a puppet (Iago, the wisecracking parrot from Aladdin) and posed the question. And then there's the poof! When Owen responded, he used dialogue from the film. The film Life, Animated explores the incredible story of Owen, who discovered in Disney animation a gateway to language and a framework for making sense of the world that transformed his life.
