Man of La Mancha

Miguel de Cervantes, a poet, dramatist, and occasional actor, was detained by the Spanish Inquisition in the sixteenth century, along with his manservant. They are accused of giving the Inquisition offensive entertainment. The other prisoners get together inside the massive dungeon where they have been imprisoned and stage a pretend trial against Cervantes and his manservant in order to either steal or burn his goods. Cervantes puts on an unconventional defense based on the Don Quixote story with the help of the other inmates and costumes, makeup, and a desperate attempt to safeguard a manuscript he is carrying.
