Milan (Johnny Hallyday) exits a train at a little French hamlet. As he waits for the day when he will rob the village bank, he meets an old retired poetry teacher named M. Manesquier (Jean Rochefort). The two guys form an odd connection and pursue the path less traveled, each wishing to live the other's life.
