The Yunagaya Domain in the Tohoku region is a tiny han during the tenure of the eighth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. Gold can be found in the han, however. Naito receives an instruction to execute Sankin-kotai within the next five days from the lord of Yunagayo Domain. Sankin-kotai is a tradition that necessitates a trip to Edo for the daimyo to meet with the shogun. It's very bad Masaatsu Naito won't have enough time to see the shogun in Edo before he dies. According to Naito, the gold mine was sought after by a high-ranking government figure. It's also difficult to construct the Sankin-kotai due to its enormous cost and the size of Yunagaya Domain. Despite this, Masaatsu Naito sets out to complete Sankin-kotai in just five days, despite the fact that he has never done anything like this before.
