A screenwriter's (Wuhl) old script is reviewed by a producer (Landau) and the quest for investors begins. There's a mistress for each of the three money makers (Aiello, DeNiro, Wallach). Gradually, the screenwriter's script is changed to please these investors, until the writer no longer recognizes his original ideas.
