Moll Flanders
Following the beheading of Moll's mother, the young woman, who is the daughter of a thief, is given into the care of a convent. Moll's childhood was marred by the deeds of an abusive priest, which prompted the young girl to rebel and run away to the seedy parts of London. She is forced to accept a job as a prostitute from the scheming Mrs. Allworthy after a string of more catastrophes. It is there that Moll has her first encounter with Hibble, who is working as Allworthy's servant at the time but takes a particular interest in the young woman's well-being. She is able to maintain her optimism with his assistance, and as a result, she winds up falling in love with an unorthodox artist who offers the opportunity for romantic fulfillment.
