Even after the closing of their shipyard in Northern Spain, a few former employees, including Santa, José, Lino, Amador, Sergei, and Reina, have remained in touch with one another. They primarily congregate at a bar run by Rico, a former coworker of theirs, to catch up. When it comes to his confidence, Santa is unofficially the leader of the group, since he appears to be most confident. In the background, he is involved in a legal battle over a shipyard lamp, which he destroyed as part of a demonstration against the closing. Because his wife, Ana, is employed, José feels resentful of the fact that he is not. He is concerned that she will leave him for a coworker because of the growing distance between them. Ana works night hours at a fish factory despite having rheumatic legs, and she believes her youthful appearance has been lost. She is not alone in her viewpoint; her supervisor is not among them. Lino is an aged family man who is tenaciously chasing positions that are far beyond his abilities. As a result of being abandoned by his wife, Amador, the group's eldest member, has descended into alcoholism while continuing to maintain the increasingly evident illusion that his wife will soon return from a trip to the Bahamas.
