Murmur of the Heart

Laurent Chevalier, a 15-year-old French teenager in the 1950s, is the focus of this loosely constructed coming-of-age story. First sexual encounter with prostitute and avoidance of priest's lips result in Chevalier contracting scarlet fever. The fever causes Chevalier to develop a heart murmur, so he and his overprotective and adulterous mother are admitted to a psychiatric facility.
