Prof. Henri Laborit tells the stories of three people to show how behaviorist ideas about survival, combat, rewards and punishment, and anxiety can be applied to their lives. He is the technical manager at a textile factory and has to deal with the stress that comes from a company cutting jobs. Janine is a self-taught actress and stylist. She learns that her lover's wife is dying and must decide if they should get back together or stay apart. Jean is a controversial writer and politician who is at a crossroads in her life. She is trying to figure out what to do with her life.
