They're an odd couple: Violetta and her mother, Hannah. Violetta, a ten-year-old girl who lives with her grandmother in peace, has a mother named Hannah, a restless photographer who survives on the kindness of strangers. After her mother pressures Violetta to model, Violetta's grandmother's life is turned upside down. Her newfound fame in Parisian art circles rapidly causes Violetta to find herself torn between her newfound status as an art muse and her humdrum childhood.
