My Summer as a Goth
A coming-of-age narrative, "My Summer as a Goth" is about an adolescent's search for identity and love, which can be a trying experience at times but can also be quite humorous. Joey Javitts, who is 16 years old at the time, is forced to be with her eccentric grandparents after the untimely loss of her father. Her mother, an author, is traveling to promote her most recent book. Joey is seduced by Victor, the alluring Goth boy who lives next door, and is consequently changed by him and his motley crew of outcasts dressed in black.
