Ivan practices experimental meditation in order to induce out-of-body experiences that may allow him to escape a mysterious illness. When he finds himself caught between the marriages of two old friends, Emily and John, his training takes an unexpected turn. Unaware of Ivan's secret relationship with his fiancée, John invites Ivan to accompany him on a hiking trip. Ivan agrees to go along just to keep up appearances. Throughout the journey, John becomes increasingly suspicious of Ivan's intentions with Emily. A dangerous game of cat and mouse ensues, which may lead Ivan down an unexpected path to a cure.
