Terry Malloy dreams of being a prize boxer while feeding pigeons and conducting errands for Johnny Friendly, the dockers union boss. Terry sees a murder by Johnny's thugs and subsequently meets the murdered man's sister. She introduces him to Father Barry, who tries to force him to give the courts dock racketeer information.
