Architect Melanie Parker is a divorced mother of Sammy, as is newspaper journalist Jack Taylor, father of Maggie. When Jack is left with Maggie suddenly, he forgets that Melanie was supposed to drive her to school. Since both children have to stay at home, they miss their school field trip. As a result of each of the two adults' preconceived ideas about ex-partners, the children must be cared for by the other in order for either of them to stay in their jobs. Sammy's habit of sticking things up his nose and Maggie's tendency to roam add to the comedy.
