Oscar and Lucinda

Having suffered abuse from his evangelistic father throughout childhood, misfit Oscar Hopkins grows up to become an Anglican preacher and develops a divine fixation with gambling. Lucinda Leplastrier is a wealthy Australian heiress who travels to London in search of supplies for her newly purchased glass factory back in her native Australia. The two become acquainted on a ship as Oscar prepares to fly to Australia to serve as missionary. A mutual fixation develops between Oscar and Lucinda. They place a bet that will have far-reaching consequences for each of them.
