Natha a poor farmer from Peepli town in the heart of country India will shed his story of land due to an unsettled small business loan. A quick fix to the problem is the a government program that aids the family members of indebted farmers that have devoted self-destruction. As a means of survival Farmer Natha can pick to pass away. His bro mores than happy to push him towards this special 'honour' however Natha hesitates. Local political elections are nearby and what might have been an additional undetected event develops into a 'cause celebre' with every person wanting a piece of the action. Political bigwigs, high-ranking bureaucrats, neighborhood henchmen and the ever-zealous media descend upon drowsy Peepli to bet their insurance claim. The concern on every person's lips - "Will he or Won't he?" As the mania rises, no one seems to care how Natha really feels.
