The controversial British playwright Joe Orton is exposed in flashback following his murder by lover Kenneth Halliwell in this biographical drama directed by Stephen Frears. John 'Joe' Orton, born in Leicester, England, moved to London in 1951 to study at RADA, and had an openly gay relationship with Halliwell in their Islington flat in the 1960s. When Orton's pieces like "What the Butler Saw" and "Loot" become huge hits, Halliwell starts to feel alienated and the pair's future becomes questionable.
