Noboru Yasumoto had hoped for an easy work as a personal physician for an affluent family, but his first post after medical school brings him to a rural clinic run by Red Beard, a grumpy doctor. Red Beard, despite Yasumoto's protestations, turns out to be a knowledgeable and patient instructor. This eventually leads to him assigning his student to take care of a prostitute who was saved from a local brothel.
