Richard III (Ian McKellen) goes crazy because he wants the British throne so badly that he is willing to kill to get it. Even though the story takes place in the 1930s, England is in the middle of a civil war between the houses of York and Lancaster. Richard's plans are messed up when the Duke of Buckingham, played by Jim Broadbent, leaves him.
