Riding the Bullet

Alan Parker, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is a young artist who goes to school at the University of Maine in 1969. He becomes obsessed with death and tries to kill himself on his birthday because he thinks he's going to lose his girlfriend, Jessica (Christensen). His friends stop him, and he gets better. He hears that his mother has had a stroke, so he decides to hitchhike to the hospital to see her.
