Rose Island

In 1968, designer Giorgio Rosa developed the independent state called "The Island of Roses" off the coast of Rimini, built on a system outside the territorial waters, with Esperanto as the official language. The Italian authorities did not take it well since the micronation was seen as a practical to not pay tax obligations on the earnings acquired thanks to the arrival of numerous tourists and curious people.
