Sayonara
Air Force Major Lloyd Gruver (Marlon Brando) is reassigned to a Japanese air base and encounters US racial prejudice against the Japanese people. The problem is exacerbated because a number of the soldiers fall in love with Japanese women, in defiance of US military policy. Normally a rule-following officer, Gruver is forced to take a stand when a friend, enlisted man Joe Kelly (Red Buttons), falls in love with and marries a Japanese woman, Katsumi (Miyoshi Umeki). Gruver jeopardizes his position as best man at the wedding ceremony.
