Shadows
Lelia and Tony, a white man and a light-skinned black lady, fall in love in New York City in John Cassavetes' debut feature as a filmmaker. Cassavetes Hugh, the jazz singer brother of Lelia, is a darker-skinned man, and Tony's perception of Lelia's ancestry is shaken when the two meet. Shadows, a seminal American indie film, was shot on location in Manhattan with a primarily nonprofessional cast and crew.
