As a result of King David's leadership in the Middle East, Israel is stable and rich, despite being surrounded by foes such as Egypt and its allies. Prince Adonijah, a ruthless warrior, claims the throne from his father's older son, Solomon. In the wake of the news that Solomon will succeed him, David publicly declares him as his successor. Anger erupts between Adonijah and Joab, his general, who flee. Under King Solomon's smart and benevolent administration, Israel flourishes and is viewed as a threat to more authoritarian kings in the region. Queen Sheba is given a Red Sea port in exchange for Egyptian support in a scheme to topple Solomon's government. As part of her plan to woo Solomon, Sheba intends to bring Sheban paganism to the holy city of Jerusalem. Pharaoh also conspires with exiled Prince Adonijah to destroy Solomon and provides him with an army. An adaptation of the Bible's First Kings chapter 10 and Second Chronicles chapters 9 is featured in the film.
