A divorced man finds in love, but cannot get over his former spouse. This has comedic implications on his romantic life. Based on the novel by Dan Wakefield. Burt Reynolds is a handsome middle-aged guy who experiences a confidence problem after his ambitious singer wife (Candice Bergen) dumps him, until he begins a new relationship with an equally insecure teacher (Jill Clayburgh). But when the wife tries to reconcile with him through seduction and a genuinely agonizing song she wrote for him, he knows where his devotion rests.
