Strike
The film depicts a strike by industrial employees in pre-revolutionary Russia in 1903 and its subsequent repression in the movie. Animals are frequently utilized as metaphors for people's lives in this film, but the most well-known is a scene at the climax of the film in which the violent putting down of the strike is cross-cut with images of cattle being slaughtered. The film also explores the tension between individualism and collectivism, which was once considered a western film norm.
