Mother Carey, a Boston widow, and her three children relocate to Maine in this Disney musical. Osh Popham, the postmaster, assists them in relocating and renovating a run-down ancient house. The owner, a mystery character named Mr. Hamilton, is away in Europe, but Osh assures them that he won't object if they live there for the time being because he won't be returning for a long time. Before an unexpected visitor turns up, the children and a cousin who has moved in with them have a variety of experiences.
