General Zod (Terence Stamp) and his minions are mistakenly released from their outer-space incarceration and threaten to destroy Earth, just as Superman (Christopher Reeve) resolves to surrender his superpowers in order to be with his new love, Lois Lane (Christopher Reeve) (Margot Kidder). Filmmaker Richard Donner shot footage for this alternate version of the picture before being replaced on the project, and it contains footage that was not included in the film's initial 1980 release.
