The Andromeda Strain

The chief of the US Air Force's Project Scoop declares an emergency after nearly all of the residents of Piedmont, New Mexico, are found dead after the return to Earth of a space satellite. A group of famous scientists led by Dr. Jeremy Stone rush to a secure laboratory and try to first isolate the life form while trying to figure out why two people from Piedmont—an old alcoholic and a six-month-old baby—survived. Despite the fact that the alien lifeform has already mutated and poses a far greater risk in the lab, the scientists continue to examine it carefully, unknowing that it has already mutated and poses a significantly larger risk.
