Laurel Ayres is an aspiring businesswoman who works for an investment firm where all the credit goes to senior investors such as Frank Peterson, despite the fact that she does all the work. She then departs and establishes her own business. While seeking clients, Laurel pretends to have a male business partner named Robert Cutty. And as she begins to succeed, all of her clients want to meet Cutty, which is impossible because he does not exist.
