Remy, a 50-something Montreal college professor, discovers that he has liver cancer in this belated sequel to 'The Decline of the American Empire.' Before he dies, he decides to make amends with his friends and family. He begins by attempting to reconcile with his ex-wife Louise, who requests that their estranged son Sebastian, a wealthy businessman residing in London, return home. Sebastian pulls off the impossible, using his connections and disrupting the entire Canadian system in any way he can to help his father fight his terminal illness to the end, all while attempting to reunite his former friends, Pierre, Alain, Dominique, Diane, and Claude, to see their old friend before he passes away.
