The Big Blue

In this romantic fantasy-adventure, two guys answer the pull of the ocean. Jacques and Enzo are childhood buddies who enjoy the perilous sport of free diving. Jacques chose to follow in the footsteps of his father, who perished at sea when he was a youngster; to the surprise of experts, Jacques has a unique ability to modify his heart rate and breathing rhythm in the water, so that his vital signs more closely resemble those of dolphins than men (he even considers a school of dolphins as his extended family). As Enzo persuades Jacques to participate against him in a free diving contest to see who can dive deeper and longer without scuba gear, Jacques meets Johana, a beautiful insurance investigator from America, and he realizes he must choose between his love for her and his love of the water.
