The Captive Heart
A sequence of vignettes chronicling the lives and loves of nine men over their five years in a POW camp. The fact that the film was shot on location in the British-occupied portion of Germany lends credibility to the story. The central tale follows Hasek (Redgrave), a Czech soldier who must conceal his identity from the Nazis. To do so, he assumes the name of a deceased English officer and corresponds with the officer's widow. They meet and decide to continue their lives together after liberation. The stories of the other convicts are told in a serialized fashion.
