A French journalist named Marianne Latour meets Diego Padilla in 1934 and they fall in love. Diego Padilla won the Spanish Chess Champion in 1934. With their daughter, they move to France at the end of the Civil War. Soon after, he will be accused of spying by the Nazis and imprisoned in an SS prison. In prison, Diego will try to stay alive thanks to Colonel Maier's love of chess.
