During World War II, 12 American prisoners of war are told to sneak into a well-guarded enemy chateau and kill the Nazi officers who are on vacation there. Most of the soldiers are facing the death penalty for a variety of violent crimes, but they agree to the mission and the possibility that their sentences will be changed.
