Jeff Webster sees the start of the Klondike gold rush in 1896 as a golden opportunity to make a fortune in beef...and woe betide anyone who gets in his way! He drives a herd of cattle from Wyoming to Seattle, then by ship to Skagway, then through the mountains to Dawson (after a delay caused by larcenous town boss Gannon). There, he and his partner Ben Tatum start their own gold business. Two lovely women fall in love with misanthropic Jeff, but he believes in every man for himself, turning his back on growing lawlessness...until it finally hits home.
