Suddenly, Marshal Flagg hears that McKaye, the outlaw he used to hate, is back in the area and planning to rob people. To find McKaye, Flagg set out to find him. When he was caught by McKaye's gang, Flagg learned that McKaye is no longer the leader of the gang, but is just an old man by the new leader, a young man named Waco. To get Mackaye to shoot Flagg, Waco tells her to. When Mackaye doesn't, Waco leaves both of them behind. There, Flagg takes Mackaye back. When he sees how clueless and incompetent the new marshal and city fathers are, he convinces Mackaye that it is up to the two of them to stop Waco and his gang from ruining their town, so Flagg convinces Mackaye to help him.
