The film begins with a flashback from Antoine, the titular character. We learn about his obsession with female hairdressers, which began at a young age. Throughout the film, flashbacks are used, and there are numerous allusions to the past. We don't know what Antoine has done with his life, but we do know he fulfilled his childhood dream of marrying a hairdresser.
